Animal Control and Dog Licensing

ANIMAL CONTROL
Portage County, in collaboration with Humane Society of Portage County (HSPC), provides a County-wide contract for animal control services by combining  the efforts of the Humane Society and the Portage County Sheriff’s Department.  The Town of Lanark participates in this program.

If you need animal control service, you can contact the on-duty Animal Control Officer 24/7/365 at (715) 344-6012 Ext. 305 OR by contacting the Portage County Sheriff’s Department at (715) 346-1400.

The Animal Control staff is also available at the HSPC Shelter during the open hours listed below, providing the opportunity to visit with them (in person) to discuss animal control concerns or questions.

HSPC Open Hours:
Monday:  12-3 PM
Tuesday:  12-7 PM
Wednesday:  Closed
Thursday:  12-7 PM
Friday:  12-3 PM
Saturday:  11 AM-3 PM
Sunday:  Closed
Also closed during Federally-recognized holidays

Services provided by the Humane Society include sales of dog licenses, animal adoptions, animal bite investigation, animal abuse investigation, animal care information and education, and free pick up of stray domestic animals.

DOG LICENSING
All dogs 5 months of age or older require a license.

The fee is $10.00 for neutered or spayed dogs.

The fee is $20.00 if not spayed or neutered.

You must show proof of rabies vaccination for a license to be issued.

You will need to send a copy of your dog’s rabies certificate, the appropriate fee, and a self-addressed stamped envelope to the treasurer.  Your dog license, tag, and the information sent in will be returned to you in the envelope you provided.  Please e-mail the treasurer for more information at treasurer@townoflanark.org.

A late fee of $5.00 shall be assessed the owner for each dog not licensed by March 31st of the current year.

First offense fines for County Animal control Ordinance violations are $169 (this includes failure to license)
